At some point I decided to grow gray gracefully.
Having learned to embrace my gray hair and having allowed it to continue to express itself in long curly locks is something which I must say--does get me noticed.
Yesterday when I was in the Food Co-op, a lovely woman asked me what I use on my hair. I could not help laughing kind of self consciously. I don't think I've ever told anyone that I use honey on my hair before, outside of my immediate family.
Why honey? I usually wash my hair with plain water every day or two. But once a week I use honey. Raw, local honey. The same honey I eat. Nothing special. Nothing added. I was inspired to use honey because I found out that sugar used topically is really good for the skin. It is great for repair and it draws moisture to the skin. I knew honey would probably work equally well or better.
My friend from the Co-op asked me where I learned to use honey. I told her I just felt inspired to try it, and I really loved it. She told me that she was going to google it to see if anyone had anything to say on the subject.
Now why didn't I think of that? Probably because I'm more likely to want to research the frequency of honey, than what uses it can be put to.
But naturally after our conversation, I got curious too.
I found a couple of entries on the subject. One woman uses a combination of honey with a little cocoanut oil. And one woman uses aloe vera gel with honey.
This is what I've noticed about using honey. It seems to have a slightly naturally oily nature, which feels really good to my hair and scalp. Because of that, I don't feel the need to add oil or use conditioner. And it rinses out easily. I use about 1/3 Cup to wash my thick hair which reaches to my sacrum. But because honey is really expensive, I only use it once a week to wash my hair. The rest of the time I can maintain a healthy scalp if I massage it with water in the shower every day or every other day.
Washing your hair with Honey is a very sensual experience. Besides the texture and the incredible scent, Honey has warming properties and in the Vedic literature, it is considered to bind to toxins and sweep them out of the body--so magical too.
The sensual, healing, magical experience of washing my hair with honey is not only practical but it is very good for my morale. And as for the frequency of honey, it is made by bees which I believe to be higher frequency Beings. My cells can only benefit from that contact.
